Allen Rosenberg is recognized as an outstanding coach and coxswain for the U.S. Olympic and world champion rowing teams. Raised in Strawberry Mansion, he attended the Walton School until his family moved to Bucks County. He attended Central High School, where he never competed in a varsity sport. At Penn State University he was a member of the wrestling team.
He transferred to Temple University's Pharmacy College. Upon his graduation in 1954, he joined the Vesper Boat Club where his rowing career began. That same year he won a gold and silver medal. In the Pan American Games in Mexico City.
He went on to capture seven U.S. and Canadian national championships, a silver medal in the 1958 world championships, and a gold medal in the 1961 Maccabiah games. As a rowing coach, his teams won three gold medals in both the 1961 and 1965 Maccabiah games; two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
In the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo; a gold medal, in the 1974 world championships and a silver medal in the 1976 Olympic games. In 1975 he coached the U.S. team to two gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City.
A graduate of Temple University School of Law, he is presently a patent attorney in Washington, D.C. he is a member of both the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and the Greater Washington, D.C. Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
